Glass Irradiation Report
Using the model 37-443 radiochromic
densitometer the optical density of the glass sample
before irradiations was measured. The
irradiations were done at a dose rate of 156 rads per second
using the model 81-22 Cobalt 60 Gamma-ray
radiation source. Sample Size 5 mm x 5 mm x 3 mm.
Table shows the results of the irradiations

High Gamma Radiation Resistant Fluorophosphate Optical Glass Fiber
The fiber (Core only Fiber OD 179 micron/ Acrylate coated OD 284 micron) was radiated in gamma environment at 1.8x10^6 Rad per hour for 30 days. Total gamma radiation dosage was 1.29x10^9 Rad. After the high level of radiation the fiber remained transparent. No solarization (browning) occurred. The purpose of the this particular experiment was to determine if Fluorophosphate Glass will have the same high radiation resistance against solarization in fiber form as it has in solid window form.
